Peter Saleh

Peter Saleh is active as a percussionist, composer, and teacher in the NYC/NJ area. He is a founding member of the Exit 9 Percussion Group and also performs with Britton Matthews in the percussion duo Exit 9/Detour. Peter subs regularly on drums at Avenue Q (New World Stages) and performs with many ensembles in and around the city. Notable performances include Baryshnikov Arts Center, McCarter Theater, NJPAC, George Street Playhouse, NYMF, NAMT, the Princeton Festival, The Players Theatre, and The Paper Mill Playhouse, as well as a solo recital tour of Taiwan and Korea.

In the world of dance, he has scored work for several renowned choreographers and presented original work at the Aliey Citigroup Theater, The Joffrey School, and NJPAC. He has composed for The Von Howard Project and Nimbus Dance Works, teaches music to dance majors at SUNY Purchase and currently plays for classes at the Juilliard School. Peter also gave a clinic on percussion with modern dance at the PAS/KoSA/NYU "Weekend of Percussion" this in February 2013 which was very well received.

Saleh's scores for percussion, published by five companies, have been performed throughout the country and internationally. His piece "ExitIX Novum" won second place in the 2007 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest and is being arranged for duo+tape by renowned electro-acoustic composer Bruce Hamilton through an international consortium of 20 distinguished performers, and is set to premiere in April 2013.

Saleh has placed his private students into some of the best music programs in the country and has guest-lectured and performed at many colleges and universities. He teaches as an adjunct instructor at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ, founded and directs the Rutgers Youth Percussion Ensemble, and coaches percussion with the Princeton-based Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey, by whom many of his scores were first refined and performed. Peter is a member of BMI and AFM and has authored the pedagogic text, "A Percussionist's Handbook" which is currently in use in college programs. He studied arranging and composition with Paul Rennick, Joseph Klein, and John Mallia and is a regional educational artist for Pearl/Adams.
